面向工业无线传感器、视频监控、可穿戴等场景,3GPP Release 17(Rel-17)提出了一种5G轻量级用户终端(reduced-capability user equipment,RedCap UE)类型,能够在满足这类业务需求的前提下极大降低终端成本。首先,介绍了5G RedCap技术的标准化研究进展;然后,分析了RedCap的典型应用场景及其关键指标;然后,从终端优化及网络性能提升两方面对RedCap技术带来的复杂度降低特性及相关增益进行了深入研究;最后,总结了RedCap技术的发展潜力与未来演进方向。

RedCap UE (reduced-capability user equipment) was proposed in 3GPP Release 17 (Rel-17)
which could greatly reduce the costs of UE under the premise of satisfying the requirements of these use cases.Firstly
the standardization progress of 5G RedCap was introduced.Then
typical use cases of 5G RedCap technology were analyzed.After that
deep research was carried on the complexity reduction characteristics as well as the related gains brought by RedCap technology from two aspects of UE optimization and network performance improvement.Finally
the development potential and the evolution direction in the future were summarized.
